@cheribaker @RamenCatholic I think that was especially true in the late 1940's to early 1960's era. Bus and hotel reinforced each other. By the time I rode Greyhound in 1973 the small hotels near the station had mostly closed down or had turned to flophouses, if the station was located in the old downtown area. Car culture had taken over. Highways had by-passed the city centers and motels were on the highways.

Now Amtrak train stations might very well have a decent hotel right near the station to this day especially in major cities.
