Okay so which Generation was it that wore ultra baggy jeans with their bottom, half or all, sticking out?
I’m all for a Green New Deal, except I would break it up into a series of stand alone initiatives all working towards the common theme of the GND. We should not try to pass one huge monolithic law all in one pass. Rather we should break it up into chunks, each with a clearly identifiable purpose and goal so that The People know what they are getting with each bill.
This would be more like FDR’s original New Deal, which was a series of laws, not one huge bill.
Finally, in the US, we also need to encourage the individual States to come onboard any GND. States can do things the Feds can’t, like discourge needless suburban sprawl, encourage infill, prioritize maintaining existing roads rather than expanding or building new roads, expanding commuter transit, etc. States should be encouraged to take control of their own responsabilities and rewarded when they do. It can’t all be on the Federal Government.
I see a lot of the Democratic Presidential candidates proposing lots of well meaning Fed. laws. That’s fine, maybe we should try some things intended to make life better. But I would put a sunset clause on them so they have to be renewed by Congress in 10 years or so.
Because laws often have unintended consequences or loopholes and/or don’t work they way we wanted them to. So they need to be reexamined occasionally to see if they need to be amended, renewed or allowed to expire.
Bought apples: Golden Delicious - which I’ve not had in a long time, Macintosh - again, been awhile, Cosmic Crisp - the new kid, want to try.
This is cool. With b2evolution as a blog script you get as many blogs as you want with webmentions on one install. As a CMS you get the mentioned blogs, plus photo gallery, forums, a manual publisher and a group projects tracker in one install.
I watched the first, 2hr, episode of Lexx TV series. I’ve never seen it before and it was fun, quirky and weird. I remember it being very popular back when I was running a science fiction directory but no cable 4 me back then.
This. Amazing for Wordpress and Micro.blog: Syndication Links now supports per-post syndication to Micro.blog from WordPress // @c @smokey
I just set up b2evolution CMS/blog(s) ver 6.11.4. It has the ability to send and receive Webmentions as per the Indieweb. This was discussed before but now I can confirm. I’m still wandering around the backend getting familier with it.
Within one hour of being out this morning I saw two Nissan LEAF cars. Seeing any kind of electric is rare around here.
I love the idea of wikis. My problem is I have no idea what I would use a wiki for.
Vivaldi browser to make user agent changes Read the link for the full story. Partly, due to old bad habits from designers left over from long ago, and partly due to intentional sabotage by big tech and rivals.
I ran across a cryptozoology site. To my surprise, Bigfoot has been sighted in dozens of states way outside the Pacific Northwest, including New Jersey! If Bigfoots really exist, the NJ Bigfoots must be a subspecies, because the two are a whole continent apart.
I should be writing long form posts. But the problem is that come evening I’m too tired.
If I banned everything from China it would take care of half of my bot problem.
Courtesy, allows two strangers, who may not even like each other, to communicate peacefully and get things done.
In case you missed it, there is a new forum about web directories and curated methods of discovering the independent web.
I should go out to a meeting tonight but I finally got warm and comfy in the Ultimate Command Recliner and I don’t want to leave.
I see no sign of the swamp draining. To my eye, the swamp is spreading.
Tim Berners-Lee has launched Contract for the Web This seems like a positive step.
Apple needs an iOS thing that automatically diagnoses which part of the Internet is not connecting: Comcast, your WiFi router, your VPN, your cell carrier, your iPhone or that God just hates you. This would save a lot of time Scud hunting for the broken link. Default would be Comcast is down, because odds.
And while I’m complaining why has my very expensive iPhone quite Swooshing when I send emails? Is this an iOS 13 bug? I want the swoosh back damnit, I paid through the nose for it.
Okay so Apple, consider that The Internet is Stuffed Up app because this happens way too often. Just sayin.
Two Amazon vans plus a UPS truck stopped on my block at the same time, all delivering stuff from Amazon. #crossingthestreams
Adventures in Digital: My 88 yr old mother just got a new microwave. Her old one was 50 years old and had a dial that you turned to set the time. New one is all digital. I spent 25 minutes on the phone explaining how to use it. Mom is analog only. I’m a good son. :-)
I just installed the Fraidy Cat browser extension for Vivaldi browser and I’m liking it alot. It crosses the divide between blogs and social networks so you can track RSS feeds from blogs plus what your buddies on Twitter are saying all on the same reader.
