Any suggestions on a good category name for just longer posts other than “Longer Posts”? I could say “Essays” but that is a little pretentious for me. “Words by the Bucket” is too long, “Posts with Titles” is too techie, “Bloviation” hm, closer but requires dictionary.
These 5 alternative social networks are the cure for Facebook fatigue - Fast Company Hm, one of these helps you migrate your stuff off of Facebook, that’s interesting.
I just blocked NYTimes on Twitter. All their stuff is behind a paywall anyway. I used to be a subscriber, but when I went to cancel I had to call them on the phone. They took my money online they could let me unsubscribe online too, but no. They burned a bridge with me.
I just wasted 45 mins. trying to turn on the backlit keyboard. Turns out, my new computer does not have a backlit keyboard. My bad. So I ordered a USB light thingy. Sorted but I’m still mad at myself. #oldpeopleproblems #wavescane
It never fails: everytime I get a new computer and sit down to configure it, either the Wifi goes down, the cable internet goes down or something. Today, the Vivaldi.com website is partly down so I can’t download the Vivaldi browser (my first task.) I feel like Charlie Brown.
A couple of weeks ago I updated my iPhone XR to iOS 13. Noticed things like Mail started to get slow and even a bit buggy. Just updated to the newest version of iOS 13 and lots of bugs seem better. It looks like Apple is getting back on track.
Gah! Installed routine updates on Linux laptop. Restart. Now laptop won’t connect to WiFi. I’m on the emergency bridge using iPad which connects to WiFi. Fortunately full life support. Shields up, calling in redshirts.
It’s not just the Federal Gov’t that can do things to help prevent climate change, US States can pass laws discouraging suburban sprawl and encouraging infill development. Encourage greener housing standards. Also, quit building new highways - repair what is already built. Combating climate change does not mean you have to spend a lot of taxpayer’s money. These will actually save money or cost nothing.
Autumn: the leaves turning and falling. Now what we need is a good, sustained, 40 mph West wind to blow those suckers out of my yard.
Sometimes I miss film for cameras. I miss the smell of fresh film, the foil wrappers or the little cans for 35mm. Most of all I miss the 48 paragraphs of fine print disclaimers written by lawyers on the boxes. :-)

Imagine if the US Government went after the users of Ransomware with the same zeal they went after Edward Snowden.

Q: “Why do superheros wear spandex all the time?”
A: Heck, if you had the body of a superhero, you’d wear spandex all the time too. And maybe a cape. Next!
Reading: Inspector Gamache series by Louise Penny. Smart plots, with great characters and setting. Good dialog with just enough wit. The writing is very much a cut above the usual in the genre. Recommended.
Man, Google is getting hammered, daily in the tech press. They were the warm fuzzy darlings 15 years ago. Maybe they should roll out the Larry and Sergey Show again. Perhaps on unicycles.
There is frost on the rooftops and in patches on the lawns this morning. Hopefully, that will kill off some pesky insects.
