I put a new ribbon on the Olivetti 35i today. I’m so glad I bought latex gloves, because those ink ribbons are full of ink. :-) Best. Purchase. Ever. Changing the ribbon was not as hard I I thought it would be.

Hmm. Two more typewriter shaped eBay packages have arrived at my local post office this morning. Snow changing to freezing rain so they may not get put out for delivery today. Tomorrow could be interesting though. :-)
I guess the good news is we have a chance to elect a US President in 2020. The bad news is we have two long, long, never ending years of presidential campaigns. Plus social networks. Plus Russia, Iran, and China all trying to influance the election by disinformation. Doom.
Ordered: Various typewriter ribbons, some decent cotton bond typing paper and envelopes. Because one must be prepared. Bought at store: disposable latex gloves for changing said typewriter ribbons.
This typewriter just in, an Olivetti Lettera 35i from the 1970’s. Made in Mexico. You can read the full story here.

I saw John Wayne was trending on Twitter so I clicked through and read about 5 tweets. It appears people are all pissed off and offended by some interview Wayne did back in 1971.
Most of the people tweeting weren’t even alive in 1971 or if they were they were still filling up their diapers. The further back you go in time the more likely you are to find offensive attitudes towards races and gender preference in print.
The truth is, if all you do is walk around looking for stuff to be offended about, you are sure to find it. The World is a nasty, dirty place and there is not a single saint walking on this Earth. Toughen up. People are shitty, complex, damaged and both evil and good all mixed together - you and me included. Nothing Wayne said or did can be undone by him or us and he’s already faced whatever Judgement you face when you die. He is certainly beyond the reach of Twitter. Pffft.
Go find something in the here and now and try and make it better.
Rut-ro, Reorge! There is a package arriving from an eBay purchase today. I wonder what that could be? :-)
I wonder if any of the successors to the old major typewriter manufacturers kept their old tooling for making a manual typewriter?
