The Heavy Hand of the Federal Government

This is way back during the George H. W. Bush Presidency. The concept of school vouchers was new and being pushed by Republicans.

I was listening to a NPR show which had leaders from various religious organizations talking about this school voucher concept. One of those leaders was the President of The Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. He calmly said something that stuck with me:

I can’t speak for others, but the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod will never take school vouchers. Never, ever underestimate the coercive power of the Federal Government.

(Emphasis mine.)

Back then that sounded alarmist, but now under Trump’s heavy handed government and retributions it is easier to understand exactly what he was warning us about. The power of the Federal government is immense and if the Fed’s really want something they have ways of making you cave in and obey.

Or to quote myself, “When you accept Caesar’s coin, you play by Caesar’s rules.”

Everything comes with strings attached.

That Lutheran Church, MO Synod President was very wise and way ahead of his time.
