Boox eBook Readers
I’m looking at Boox epaper tablets. I would use one primarily for reading ebooks and some light internet reading like maybe on a RSS reader.
What is neat about Boox is it is powered by Android and runs Android apps. Which means it will run most of the ebook store reading apps: Amazon Kindle, Nook, Kobo and all the others found in the Amazon app store. This makes one device your ereader for all the stores.
Like I currently have ebook readers for both Kindle and Kobo. I like both of them but it would be easier if I could just grab one device and know that my entire ebook library for all stores is going with me.
I think I’m going to wait before I buy a Boox though. Both my ereaders are working well and I can’t justify buying a Boox tablet yet. I’ll have to wait for one of my ereaders to die first then get a Boox.
Buying eBooks
This leads me to this bit of news: Bookshop.org is now selling ebooks. Right now it looks like mainly DRM’d titles by Big Publishers but eventually they will start carrying non-DRM’d indie titles which is what I really want. And again, that lack of indie author titles means I’ll wait a bit before I start buying my ebooks from Bookshop. I currently buy almost all my ebooks from Kobo and I like the Kobo store. Of course I have a lot of books on Kindle and some ebook titles are only available on Amazon so I have to keep a Kindle reader.
Right now you have to read ebooks bought from Bookshop on either the Web, or on either a Android or iOS app because Bookshop does not yet have a dedicated ereader. But wait, you guessed right, that Bookshop Anroid app will work on the Boox tablet (above) which is another good reason to consider the Boox tablet.
As much as I like Kobo, it’s good to have somebody else get into the ebook store market. It will be awhile before I can switch but I do intend to check out Boox tablets and Bookshop.org ebooks. You ought to check them both out and see if they would work for you.
