I searched for WordPress plugins for “quotes” thinking about quote-of-the-day. All the top returns were plugins for job-cost quotes. Commerce. Back in ‘00’s all the plugins would have been famous quote of the day sort of things. Thank you Web 2.0 for nothing.
Explains a lot about why WordPress has changed the way it has, I think. Most people use it as a “web site builder” for online shops, so it’s become a CMS. Follow the paying customers.

Me too! Don’t get me wrong. Quirky, passionate sites are the best.
At the same time, I’m beginning to see why WordPress is making choices that alienate so many. Those people (including me) aren’t paying. Automattic is a huge company now so it has to meet payroll.
