Ebooks and the Balkanization of Publishing: A Rant

The problem with ebooks, online book stores and ebook platform readers is it’s creating a Balkanization of ebook title availability. Each online ebook store has a different list of book titles by a given author, especially with self published or small press publishers. Amazon, generally has the most titles of any ebook retailer with other reader/platform/retailers being more hit and miss on title counts.

And it’s a pain in the ass.

Largely because each retailer has their own ebook reader which means you end up trying to remember “do I have this author’s other books on Amazon Kindle, Kobo Reader, Barnes and Noble’s thingy or Apple Books?”

And it’s a pain in the ass.

Okay an extra bonus rant: I still miss the late Fictionwise.com. They were the best online ebook store. To bad they got borged by B&N.
