A disturbing read to say the least.

This is the root of the problem with capitalism. The system prioritizes money over people. It can’t get any more plain than sending people out to die in order to protect corporate profits.

Let the companies die and the people live.

@joejenett Yes, I found it very disturbing. And it tells you why Trump is waffling on continuing mandated isolation. Fortunately, it's really not his call, the state governors are in charge of that and they really don't have to obey him. But this attitude that the health and welfare of the people, is secondary to some corporate or personal fortune is mind boogling.

@fgtech Given that about 10% of the population controls +80% of the nations wealth I'd say that it's more than corporations it's billionaires protecting their personal wealth too. Oligarchs worshiping their Golden Calf. These people really don't live in the same world as the rest of us.

I guess I’m working on the knowledge that a major reason for the existence of corporations in the first place is to create an entity that itself protects the personal wealth of the billionaire(s) in control of the company.

@fgtech You're absolutely right. Somehow we've switched from corporations that play by the rules, mostly, and make a fair profit, to a bunch of looters. And I don't think much of anybody in Washington really wants to stop them, they want the system of looting to continue.

We are all learning right now how “essential” those billionaires are to the daily function of our economy. That’s exactly why they’re so freaked out. The longer this lasts, the more everyone realizes which end of the management hierarchy is really disposable.

I’m not really this cynical about the larger role of corporations in society. My quarantini was strong tonight. But I would damn sure like to see some income inequality leveled out as people realize we really can’t function without the people who are doing the work.

@odd I can’t claim credit for that awesome name. Like the novel coronavirus, the name’s origin is unknown and it’s spreading around the world rapidly.

@fgtech I'm becoming more cynical about corporations. Unrestrained capitalism goes too far and leads to an unhealthy consentration of wealth and production. Combine that with global off-shoring of design and manufacturing and you have a toxic soup like our current situation with supplies.

You are right, we need a rethink about wealth. We also need to have government impose a clear set of rules and expectations by which corpororations must abide.

Yes, I think we are in full agreement. Capitalism is a useful tool if we think of it that way. When that hammer starts bashing people on the head instead of helping build things then we need the power to put the hammer away for a while and prioritize the people.
