How Blogging has Changed.

Once upon a time, when web blogging was new, the rule was to “link freely” to whatever pages the blogger found interesting. Then it got abused to rank pages in @Google so Google started penalizing if you linked out too much. So bloggers became afraid to link out even innocently to pages they genuinely liked.

Now my rule is to link to stuff only if I really really want people to see something. Otherwise I just talk about it and you all can search for it using a search engine, hopefully one that isn’t Google. We used to be able to surf the web via old school web blogs, now not so much. Now everything is slick, glossy, corporate, soulless and sterile on the web. Google won.
